lessons learned.

I'm new to dog training but learned one lesson that luckily turned out okay. I like to take my 7 month old lab out for mtn bike rides. Last week, due to her age, and warm temperatures, I only went 3 miles. At the end of the trail, there is a large pond. I threw the dummie twice into the water and she did wonderfully, so I stopped (finish on success). Anyway, she had her leash on, and i realized i had dropped my keys. I went back to the pond entrance, and she ran into the water for one last dip. I wasn't too worried, but than she saw the swans, which normally haven't attracted her. She started swimming after them. Now I was worried, with the leash and her trying to swim into the middle of the pond. I was in the water with my shoes on, when she realized that she was getting tired. she stopped on a reed pile, rested and came back. luckily the long lead (8 ft) did not get caught.. I love that dog, I would have been a mess if something happened to her. Just in case another newbie is out there, be careful, these dogs really love the water.
Now you know she has some drive. That is the good news.
