Exciting New Incentive for Young Ice Anglers in 2004

Veteran Ice Fishing Instructor Wil Wegman and Seneca College have put together a unique new incentive program to attract young anglers to the wonderful sport of ice fishing. Beginning with the two ice fishing courses taught by Wegman this winter, the college will allow anyone 16 years of age and younger to sign up with an adult relative for the rock bottom price of only $10.00 per child. Wegman, who is all too-aware that today far fewer Canadian kids are fishing, is very excited about this commitment by the college to attract future anglers. “I really have to commend the college for this move towards opening the doors for new, young anglers. We hope that by teaching the tools to safely and successfully enjoy this great outdoor activity that we will entice more kids to get away from their computer games this winter and participate in this wonderful Canadian sport”. Wegman concluded by saying, “So, adults, who pay the regular tuition fee, are encouraged to also enroll with their sons, daughters, nieces or nephews for only an extra ten bucks.”

There will one more ice fishing course taught this winter:

Advanced Ice Fishing for Perch & Crappie … February 19, 2004, 7-10 pm at the King City Campus. This course is geared for those especially interested in focusing on these two popular panfish. As well as standard ice safety procedures, conservation, and ice fishing tackle and equipment, students will learn about ultralight ice fishing techniques, winter seasonal movements, tournament strategies and advanced methods to fool panfish into striking when standard approaches don't work. This course also includes an ice fishing excursion to nearby Lake Simcoe on Saturday March 8th. Here students will be put to the test in a fun-filled ice fishing competition with prizes awarded to the winners. Cost of this more intensive ice fishing program is $70.00 for adults and just $10 per child signing up with the adult. This price includes the day of ice fishing for both adult and child. Please note that adults must accompany, and are responsible for, the enrolled children they sign up with. Course code: RFS 910
