After sitting in the rain all Thursday morning and without seeing anything I really hadn't planned on going out. It was a lazy afternoon and the couch and I had a nap all planned out. That "urge" just over took me and I jumped up and got dressed as quick as I could. I am very blessed that I don't have very far to go to get to my spot. By 4:15 pm I was in my blind with a steady drizzle coming down. This was the same blind that my daughter took her very nice 7 pt on opening day. I was just thinking of her call to me after she shot and how excited she was. I also remembered her telling me how loud it was in this blind after she shot so, being the wise old dad I took some ear muffs with me. After only 30 minutes I caught movement to the right and just like that this fella was coming out of the brush with his nose to the ground. I am a firm believer in using a drag rag soaked in Tinks 69 and I had hung it up on a bush 20 yards in front of the blind. I quckly put on the ear protection and my movement caught his eye causing him to stop broad side. One shot from my Winchester 1400 Ranger 12 gauge and 30 yards later we had our second buck of the season. Plenty of venison in the freezer which we get to share with family and friends. Good luck and safe hunting to everyone still in search of the elusive white tail!
