Of course if there is any way any serious (foolish??) waterfowler will hunt the last day right!!....well we return to a field that has been very very good to us over the years and some years a total bust. Its beans this year so it is basically a flat snow covered field that hasn't seen feeding waterfowl in a year. We set up in the hedgerow. We thought this was going to be a duck hunt since not a single goose has played right yet in this field this year. first light and 30 mins in we see two small, small flocks of mallards that pay us no mind, this is in the dark as well. Not good for us for the ducks today. Well the geese fly and today they flew right over us, we managed 8 the hard way. 1 or 2 from 6 or seven flocks. Seems like they were much more eager to listen to the call and give the decoys a look after they had some feed in them. we had birds go over at 80 yards that never looked at us, we had a 30 pack of birds parachute vertically down into the decoys. we made a huge decoy shift that helped, we went from tight family groups to a big long string/hook thing..that seemed to be the ticket. Is the longest time ever the time it takes decoying geese to drop in the zone from on high in a 25 mph wind. how cool!!.....our last bird was a cripple we dispatched( without a gun) roadside. almost made it to the freeway!!... now if the geese just started using the corn in the field next door before Jan 09 comes :yikes:

hope everyone else who ventured out today was rewarded for thier efforts..

that wing thing is called a wing waver I think. plastic sillouette body with wings attached to a string. good movement, cheap, easy to transport and set up. we beleive it was critical yesterday. some of the geese were coming right to it. ...andy

Just wondering about your mojo's (or whatever brand you're using). Do you leave them running the whole time? Or do you turn them off once the geese find you and turn your way? Just curious - the logic seems to be that they frighten geese. Wondering if you found that to be true?

we pulled them early. on foggy days we have had geese ignore them. clear days they do not get used on goose only hunts...andy
