I am bringing my 2 kids up to Michigan from Chicago to visit the southwest side of Michigan to visit family. I am thinking about bringing my small 12 foot Starcraft aluminum boat to fish possibly at Lake Macatawa.

Is my boat too small for that lake? Or is there a better choice? Or a good place to rent a bigger boat there?

Lake Mac is a pretty big lake and if you're planning on fishing during the weekend, I'd say look for a different lake. The weekend traffic is ridiculous. Are you staying in Holland? If so, there are a couple of small lakes just south of Holland that would be perfect for little kids and a 12 ft boat. Goshorn lake is on the north side of Saugatuck and has plenty of bluegills and small bass to keep the kids entertained. Plus it's a no wake lake, so you won't be bothered by jet skiers or powerboats. Probably 10-15 minutes south of Holland.

Peir fishing or booking a charter is another option. Salmon fishing is pretty good right now (I got 8 last night).
