Ive been waiting for a nice warm day and offshore breeze to get my boys out fishing with me for their first time ever. They both just turned 3 and 5 and they love eating the fish I catch and helping me prep the boat for when Im going out.
My wife came along to make sure we all behaved 😁. Caught 4 walleye in 1.5hrs on the cdn shoreline with BB and 1 on a bandit. My oldest pointed out that the best harness of the day was one he made last year so he was proud of that and its a natural fish killer. Each time we landed a fish on the boat they were all ecstatic including my wife lol, cheering and high fives all around. My boys took turns steering the boat and helping turn on the live well 15 times 😆. We had a blast and fried up some fish once we got home. Time for a beer and revel in the awesomeness we had today. Many more days like this to come!

Gotta love it.. mine just turned 3.. Kid has entirely too much energy! I'm not sure I trust him on big water yet. Maybe I should give it a whirl!
yeah I left it up to them when to call it and I told them beforehand that when they want to go back we're done. I was just happy we caught fish so they can see the process play out. My youngest 3, was a little unsure and held mommas hand most of the time but my oldest was an all-star, grabbed the net for each fish and brought it to me and kept calling out good marks on the fish finder. I showed him onetime what a walleye mark looked like and he was calling out marks as I was setting and checking lines. Each kid is different, your 3 year old might be good to go, after a couple more excursions I think mine will be alot more comfortable. He had a blast but he was just a bit unsure what was going on and didn't like driving fast or anytime another boat wake would rock the boat. Give it a try and see how he does, just be ready to pull the plug if you have to.

Great job, dad! They will be hooked for life and they (& you) will have some life long memories of the times you fished together. I fish mostly with my grandson nowadays, and he started fishing with me at age 5. He is now 15, and he tells everyone that I am his best fishing partner. He made some silly looking lures when he was younger that actually caught fish, LOL and today, he makes flies and jigs and sells them to keep him off the streets and off of the video games, and they look and work awesome. We both have some very great memories of our many fishing trips together, and you and your sons will too. Encourage your son to keep making his harnesses and some day, he just may surprise you with his abilities on making lures. 👍
thats awesome, glad to hear you got a commited fishing pal! My oldest was watching me the other day pour some snap weights, hes always been crafty and enjoys working with his hands. Anytime Im making jigs or tying tackle both boys are attached to me they're so curious and always demand to help. Harness making is alot of fun with them, they love playing with the beads and making their own cool color combos. My wife got a pic of the harness from yesterday, cant see the blade but its a purple holographic/UV. Maybe oneday we will create sharkbait lure company haha

Had my 4 and 5 year old out for the first time on the big water last night as well. We hit 2 fish in the first few minutes then dead for an hour. They wanted to fish with bobbers instead of troll, so we found a canal with some cooperative gills and largemouth.
