Jigging Rod Thread

I think it's about time for a good jigging rod thread. I've got 6 spots on my boat for my personal rods and only have 5 so I need to fill a spot. Probably not gonna drop more then $150 on the next but bring on what you're running. Personally I've got 2 fish Eagles a 6' mf and 6' mlf, a lami hammer 6' mhf, a bps tourney special 5'10 mf and a Fenwick elite tech 5'9 mxf. I obviously like the fish Eagles. I have the mlf for the saginaw system as it's a go to for 1/4 jigs vert jigging or quarter casting. The mlf eagle still does ok jigging 40' plus with a 3/4 tho too. The lamis have been ok to me, broke one last year tho and bought the bps this year as I wasn't completely sold on the brand after using them. The bps seems really nice for a cheap rod but had some bad snag luck so haven't ran it much. The elite tech is my baby and we've ripped a lot of lips but it is also a rod that is almost always in the water.

What's everybody running? What's the best rod under a bill and a half? Please no lightning rods or ugly sticks...but then again whatever if thats how ya feel! Show off your baby!

I fish with 4 St.Croix rods and 2 Fish Eagles. St.Croix Premier 5’6” is twice the cost of the Fish Eagles but lighter and shorter. I like it for jigging on long days but the sensitively is not twice as good as the Fish Eagle. I fish St.Croix Legend Tournament 5’9”rods mostly when jigging because of the lightweight, length and super sensitive feel but always have the Fish Eagles ready to fish and like the sensitivity you get for the money.

St Croix Avid 5'9" med w extra fast tip may be my best jigger but it is $195.

I really like my Fenwick Elite Tech's... I've got several from Tackle Grab Bag in Davison for $99 each. You have one... don't you like it? It's the best choice under $150 that I have used.

I absolutely love my elite tech. They don't run them for $99 all the time at the grab bag do they?

I always like to hear what everybody is running. The elite tech is my right hand rod with my go to color on it always, pretty much just cycle the rest of em on my left hand color changing so I don't necessarily need another elite tech. Wouldn't be a bad thing tho! I think I paid $129 for mine off fishusa on sale I think.

one of my favorite. Little heard of for jigging, super light and sensitive and tuff.

6’9” M is always rigged ready to go

Lamiglass closer is my newest snd probably the most sensitive rod in my arsenal of many. Fenwick elite is another great stick.

Caught my PB musky jigging a Bondy Bait on a $40 Saltwater Ugly Stik Lite.
Those Ugly Stik Lites are also awesome casting and trolling rods, too. I got one that's 9.5ft for my lightest baitcasting rig I use for casting baits as light as 3/16 oz for walleye, pike, and bass, and another 9ft rod that's a mainstay for trolling minnowbaits.

I'm also planning to experiment a bit with longer rods for walleye jigging. I can feel the slightest nudge with the better "salmon/steelhead" rods I use for casting and trolling, and the extra flex might make for a higher landing percentage, despite it being not quite as easy to net the fish. But I net them while trolling using those rods. I highly doubt fatigue would be an issue if I can jig and cast for muskies all day with no problem.

Also, to the point of cheap gear, the best jigging rod I've used has been an el cheapo Berkley rod. And their lightning rod series is awesome, especially the salmon/steelhead models.

Let me be the first to recommend the Abu Garcia Veritas ($119) in 6'6 Med/Hvy! I've taken friends out who have spent 3 times the $ on jigging rods who teared up when I let them try the Veritas! They owned one within two weeks!
On that note, I prefer the Veritas to any jigging rod that I have EVER compared it to.

I'm surprised at the couple mentions of the Eyecon rods. I have a couple of their 7'6" extra fast slip bobber rods and the sensitivity is horrible, but the handle are awesome.

My favorite jigging rod is an old Bass Pro Shops Walleye Angler jigging rod, 5'9" medium action. It's not the most sensitive or stiffest rod I have, but I rarely loose a fish on the way up with it and the large diameter handle is fantastic to hold onto all day. I wish they still made rods like that.
