I managed to talk the 15 yo into going with me for one last hunt today. Been waiting to try a spot right by the house that we know holds wild birds. The birds were super wary and wouldn't even let us get close, flushing 200 yards before we got to them. Flushed four roosters way out with no hope for a shot at any of them but our luck changed as we got to the very end of the field and two roosters held their ground in the field..... One flushed right at the tree line and got into the trees before we could get a shot off. No luck on that one, but it got us alert and ready..... just as we both had our guns up and mounted and watching that bird fly off, another rooster flushed right between us and it flew right towards the kid. He waited until it passed by him, letting it put a little distance between before he pulled the trigger on it and dumped it right at the edge of the field. Made for a easy find and retrieve for the dog. Nice way to end the season, with a last day dandy of a bird. We ended up flushing 6 roosters from the field before finally connecting on the last one. At least we know there will be birds there next year too!

The new pup has been just great on birds this year. She'll turn 2 in Feb.
Could not be happier with her.

Went for one last adventure. Scouted some spring woodcock covers. Had a couple grouse come out of a barren fresh clear cut grassy patch. It was an awesome way to end the season.

This was my pups first year going after wild birds. We managed 5 phez this year, all taken in the Dec late season..... Which truthfully is about 4 more birds than I had ever hoped for this year. I started taking her hoping to just get ONE this year.

Season 1 goal smashed!!!

Took both my dogs out. Found lots of tracks and one grouse. Better than not being out there.
