Good luck! There are a lot of shallow lakes up that way that are good for fishing. I love that area any time of the year.
Looking for panfish. If you have any suggestions around rose city and mio of shallow lakes, feel free to send them! Appreciate the help. I know Mack Lake is shallow, but that is all pike I know. Might try Wagner Lake. The cove on lake mccollough is usually froze early. I'm sure the shore of mio pond will be close to safe. So we have options to try. Worst case scenario we will fly fish the ausable for steelhead and just enjoy scenery.

I checked some of the Au Sable flooding area, there's ice, but I don't think it's safe yet. Be careful if you try it someplace.

I went for a swim early ice on the bay looking for perch,
lucky for me only about 5 feet of water. I never touched bottom as my feet never stopped kicking! Now I try to never lead and always go with a fat guy! Good luck and be safe.

I fell through the saginaw river once and lived to tell the tale so I wait anymore before I know it's good and safe. If I want fish that bad I can go to the fish market. But to each his own
Glad you made it! I too went for a swim thru the ice on the Saginasty, across from Riverview bait on river rd. Sat on 4"-5" of white soft ice for about a hour stood up and BAM down I went. Came up about 20-30 yds downstream in a cancer hole. Thanked my lucky stars and have only fished the Saginasty thru the ice maybe 3 times since. Jim Bradley and two others were witnesses. Saginasty river ice IMHO its not worth the risk for any fish. I catch more and bigger fish out on Saginaw bay anyways.

I learned where the areas are that don't have the current to mess up the ice but I still only go out when it's a minimum of 8" in those areas. One day I will have a machine to get out on the bay!

Holy Crap!! Glad you made it out. Scary stuff right there.

Anymore this early ice plus snow scares me. I know where they are fishing and have been thru the last warm up but I will wait. But I did get some fresh walleyes for a meal from them. Bummer was is I had to clean them
Amen to that, I'm getting antsy too, but it's just not worth the risk anymore.

Ice Update. Found ice. Found tons of perch. Small. But still fun. Going back out for afternoon bite. 3-4 inches of ice. Plenty thick. Went all over the ice.
