The first place they'll show up after ice out is where the water warms up first . Shallow bays , usually with a dark bottom & some type of cover helps . Either weeds or wood . My favorite spots are man-made channels off the main lake , where they're protected from the wind & the sun warms them up early . If there's a tree or some branches fallen in the water , perfect . Small jigs or ice fishing lures are what we use , tipped with waxies , spikes , worms , minnows , whatever . Suspend them under a tiny bobber . Great way to shake off winter .
