How's the ice gonna be for this weekend? Heard there is a good 6-7" on most lakes down there but wondering how it's gonna be looking after a couple days of warm temps and if it'll be worth going down Saturday morning to fish.

I been out all week, once on duck and saw guys on East Bay of eagle. Don't fish Swan in the winter. To crowded and too many other great lakes in the area. The wind will probably be the only issue you'll have Saturday. Good luck.
5-6 inches of good clear ice, shore was getting bad though
I fished Saturday morning and when I got done saw guys on duck, swan, clear, and lk eleven. Plenty of good ice for those who use caution. What was big fish off muskrat.

Good advice from Buck pike. Fished Tuesday, Thursday and headed out here shortly. Put it this way, spud was with me all week. 4-5 inches in places but not any moire than that. Early snow made bad ice in places that got really bad when it warmed. You could read it still yesterday morning but now its all covered with snow. Good news is it got cold for a while before the snow came. Ice got crazy loud yesterday as temps fell from 33 to 19 while I was out. I been on duck a bit off the south shore and tried access yesterday and found some really bad less than one hit junk in places and went elsewhere. Good luck

Hastings and allegan may as well be considered different states. I have lived in the allegan/vanburean line area for 20 years. For what ever reason its a lk effect snow belt and conditions can vary big time from lk to lk. I've drove to Carter lk many times when we had nothing safe here. Just saying. Ice was better today though.

I would make sure your son has waterproof boots. The slop is bad and will be worse by Sunday on the lakes I've fished. Good luck and stay dry
