Does anyone know of a good way to keep a pond from freezing. The pond is weedy and mucky but is about 4' deep in some places.

We do not have power (electric) close by so a pump is out of the question.

Any thoughts would be great!

Are you talking like keep it open all season or like for 12 hours so you can hunt it?

I think you need power, but you can run a generator near it, or you can run a trolling motor off a deep cycle battery for a shorter amount of time.

Buddy runs a windmill to circulate water in his pond for tame ducks.

You can put a small air cooled outboard out there on a saw horse. Like one smaller one that you could put on a canoe. They typically have tiny gas tanks, but you can plumb up a remote tank with a length of fuel line.

I always wondered if you could float a push mower out there, but never tried it. A push mower sucks grass upwards and shoots it out the side so it seems like it should work, but I haven't tried it.

I guess if you were handy, you could fabricate a stand to mount any air cooled engine onto to drive some sort of paddle, turbine, or the like to get the water moving.
