I was curious to as how many pins and what yardage you guys shoot to? I hunt central Michigan and mainly swamps, so most of my shots are always under 25yds. However, this past weekend I had what would have been my biggest buck I would have taken with a bow. A heavy 8pt slowly made his way towards me and then turned broadside at 45 yds and was completely calm, which was going to be my only shot opportunity. I have practiced at 45 yds but donÂ’t feel 100% confident at that range on an animal as a lot of things can happen at that distance. There was also a light rain, so a blood trail would have gotten washed away easily. It was really tempting as well as extremely hard for me to hold back the temptation and not take the shot. If that was 5 years ago, I would have no doubt took the shot. I feel like IÂ’ve learned as a hunter to not take marginal shot IÂ’m not completely confident in. Anyways, whatÂ’s your guys thoughts as far as how far you comfortably would shoot at a buck and how many pins do you use? I currently shoot 60lbs with 1 pin sighted up to 30 yds. At the end of the day, I'm happy I decided to hold off but the thought of that big buck is till playing in my mind. Not sure if I'll get a crack at him again since my uncle is getting his property lumbered starting this week...great timing. Anyways, looking forward to responses.
