I saw and article on a hunting mag and they said that michigan bowhunters are less llikely to shoot at longer distance than the rest of the country.. Is that true. I'm from Quebec ,Canada and I have killed deer up to 60 meters with lots of practice.

Would be nice to know your range..

This topic always starts a buzz! I can shoot 4 inch groups with broadheads out to 40 yards, I practice all year long, and have even won trophies on competitive leagues. However, I don't shoot much over 20 yards. Deer are just to unpredictable. I guarentee you one thing. No matter how good you are you will cripple more deer if you shoot 40 yards than you will if you shoot 20 yards. To me, it isn't about "how far you can shoot", but more about "how close can you get". I just respect the deer way too much.
There, that should get it buzzing ;) <----<<<

I'd shoot at least 60 in the perfect conditions....light clothing, light wind, deer feeding, broadside, not alarmed, known yardage, etc. Never had the opportunity yet.

In the worst of conditions...fairly windy, heavy clothing, still not alarmed though, I'd lower that to 30-35 yards.

Personally, I've found that deer are much, much less likely to react to the shot over 30-35 yards, and if they do....well, the deer isn't even there by the time the arrow gets there.

30 yards is the average distance I like to set my stands for, which is an all around average shot for me and very easy to make....but to each his own, everyone has their own abilities and they definately need to stick within them.

Farthest I've shot a deer is 35yrds.I prefer 20 or less.I shoot well on target at 40 to 50 yrds. ,but wouldn't try it on a deer. The article you read is probably considering all states and it's pretty thick here compared to Montana or the Dakotas.Except on field edges most places wouldn't allow a good shot much more than 30 yrds. there's always exceptions, but thats the rule IMO. ;)

It all depends on how I feel on a given day in the woods. Some days I feel confident out to 50 yards...some days I pray for everything inside 30 yards. With that being said, I took my largest buck ever this year at 40 yards...my farthest shot up until that point was only 18 yards. Any given day...any given day.

I'm shure everyone knows Chuck Adams, he says if you can group 2 inch grouping at 20 you can shoot a 4 inch grouping at 40 and a 6 inch at 60..

It's all about haveing confidence in your shoot.. I know lots of people that shoot better at 40 than half the population at 20..

The two peices of property that I hunt, I rarely get a chance to shoot past 25-35. Most of our (me and my buddy) shots are around 20yds or so.

The one tract of land behind my buddies place, their is only a few spots where a shot over 25yds can and will occur.

The other tract of land has some open areas that will allow a 30-50 yard shot. But we don't hunt these areas at all. It gives the deer a "safety zone" where they can retreat to. We just hunt the boundries of it :D

With all that mumbling said, my max range is 25yds.
