Come May, students in Ken Schafer’s class are hoping to release salmon fry into the Chippewa River. With a bit of luck, in three years, they might return as full-grown fish.

Come May, students in Ken Schafer’s class are hoping to release salmon fry into the Chippewa River. With a bit of luck, in three years, they might return as full-grown fish.

Sure a noble cause and a great learning experience for all the students. Around 2% of fry make it to maturity, so under perfect conditions, approx. 1.8 fish should live to full life cycle.

Fellow canoers have caught a couple of rainbow trout in the river, nothing big. We were surprised at the time.

Kind of what I thought. Making it out to the Bay and back there would be a snowblls chance in hell for that few to start with. Cool project though.
