Hi sportspeople. I like what a lot of you have done to your shanties to identify youselves to other members out on the ice. I wanted to come up with an easy to read way to do it that wouldn't involve permanently attaching it to my shanty. I thought I'd just make a banner and then set it up wherever I'm at on the ice and then other members can see me. I was going to find a way to attach it to my shanty but I have about a 12" long piece of 2x10 that I just drilled a hole in and stick the pole in it. I think it will be sufficient to hold it up even in the wind. It's not completely finished yet because I only have one side done. I think I'm going to make it two sided so you can read it from either direction. If you see me out there, drop in and say hi ! Here's a pic.

Heck, I think I'll fly it on my boat in the summer too !

Chad,

It's a white cotton fabric that I made the banner out of. I then printed the text on iron-on transfer paper and then ironed it onto the banner. I used the fiberglass mast from a bike flag for the mast. It's fairly easy and cheap to do. With your last statement I just had an idea.

If anybody out there wanted one, I'd be willing to make them up and sell them with the proceeds going to the site. All I'd take is my material cost then the rest would go to the site. If that would be ok with Steve I'd be more than willing to do it. I don't think it costs me more than about $5 or so in materials for the banner. I paid $8 for the bike flag but I think I can get them for around $5 or $6 if I shopped around.

If anybody's interested, post it here and I'll check with Steve. If he says it's ok, it's a go ! We can talk price once we figure that out. Again, I'm not looking to MAKE any money on it but it might be a way to get a few dollars for the site.

Looks good, you just need a place for your screen name on there if you're going to make up a bunch of them...

You're right kb. I'm in the process of adding a place for the screen name. When I figure it out I'll make one up and post the pic here. I just got the ok from Steve to do these up. If you're interested in one make a post here and then I can get an idea as to how many I'm going to have to make. I pretty much know what my cost is for the fabric but I just have to get the cost on the transfer paper. Then I'll know what my total cost is. It's really not that much and I think it looks pretty good.

I used the orange color from the site banner for the colors, but I could make the lettering just about any color you'd like.

What kind of printer do you use to make iron-ons?

I have an HP inkjet. If my print-outs hear rain hit the side of the house they start to run.

Hey Frantz,

GREAT idea ! I never even thought of that. I think that's what I'll do. I guess M-S doesn't need to be on BOTH sides. I'll make up a screen name iron on. Then I'll post what it looks like.
I was in the process of making up a little "flag" to go above the banner but your suggestion makes it MUCH easier. :)

Labrat,

I just use my HP PSC-950 (multi-function machine). About a year ago I made up a sweatshirt with my business card info on it. I've been wearing and washing it for a year and it still looks great. These iron ons I'm using work very well so far.

Ok, looks like there is some interest in thes ID flags.

Steve gave me the ok to go ahead and make them. (Thanks Steve)

On a suggestion from Frantz I decided to just use the second side for your screen name instead of another logo. Here is a better close up picture of each side :

Ok, it looks like there is some interest in these banners. The bike flag mast that I used works very well so far. They're generally available at any bike shop or probably Kmart, Meijer, Walmart, etc. It would be kind of tough for me to ship an item like that because they're about 6' long. They generally cost about $5 to $8.
You could use any kind of 1/4" diameter rod to hold the banner. I'm just sewing in a pocket along the side of the banner to slide over the mast. I just plan on using a scrap piece of 2x10 with a 1/4" hole in it to stick the flag into.

I'm thinking that I'd like to get $22.00 shipped anywhere in Michigan. (Or $20 if I don't have to ship it)

If you'd like one, drop me an email or PM and let me know what you'd like the back to say and what color you'd like it to be.

No problem Dave,

I could do the back with :

eyebuster & 1shot

That's no problem to do. $22 is fine. If you want to drop me an email or PM with your address for shipping I can make one up for you. Is red ok for the names or would you like another color ? Think about it and let me know in your message. I'll shoot you a PM with my address to send the $$. Thanks !
