I'll try with the bow the first 2 days and then after that I'll get out the gun maybe. Taken a bird almost every year for the last four years, with two taken last year, one in spring and one in the fall. The only year I got skunked was the year I purchased a new Turkey gun and did not pattern the gun stupid me clean miss. All taken with gun. Baydog

I will be using a gun. I would love to do it with my bow, but I am not that great with a mouth call, so It would be hard to hunt with a bow. So until I get better with the reed, I will be carrying the remington 870.

Hey--I cannot use a mouth call period but, that doesn't stop me.

Try hunting out of a portable blind (some are better than others). It gives me room for stool, bow, variety of calls, camera...the whole nine yards.

The biggest problem is up close finishing and I just resort to a push button and it works for me...

You guys seem to be on the same page as me. I get more kicks out of calling birds and taking pics than from shooting them.

I don't especially like chicken or turkey and I am too friggin lazy to mess with a turkey (most of the time). As a result--it is the hunt and not the kill that floats my boat.

I can call alot more birds (and watch more and learn more) if I am not looking down a barrel anxiously awaiting a kill...

Alot of folks think I am a loon for my approach but--I don't much care--I enjoy myself and that is what it is all about...

I quess I like the taste too much. But lwing you are right after calling these birds you just have to watch these majestic birds strut their stuff around the decoy for awhile. Neighbor a few years ago fell asleep in his portable blind on the snowy opening morning. He finally woke up to the thumping sound of a Tom pounding his jake, thought it was me goofing around. Good luck guys. BAydog

Longbow all the way! I've been fortunate enough to take 5 birds with a gun so this year Iam gonna try with my new take down thunderhorn. pop's bought a double bull bs5 last year so that will help, but I don't think I will hunt exclussively out of it.

I missed a hen two years ago with my other longbow during the fall season, while sitting in my tree stand waiting for a buck to show. Must have been 20 or more turkeys strolled on by and I figured they won't see me up in the tree, but the moment I moved they spooked, except one that was lookin' around like what's up, well I aimed for her, she caught the movement and left two and the arrow flew over her back. Hen's ain't to big a target!

That's the plan unless I'm down to the last day, then it's browning citori satin hunter and 3 1/2" magnums!:D

I'll be hunting the late season this year and since I'll have 3 weeks I'll be using the Bow.
I find during the last hunt a bow is easy to use since I won't be calling making the ambush and draw easier then when using a call. I hunt sand pits that I know the birds use and wait for them to come in dusting themselves.

I just realized I never stated what I will be using. I am going to give my bow a try. I have taken a few with my gun, but now I want to take one with my bow. I have a new double bull BS5 blind to try out too. I am going to try to get a few hunts on video this year, I know a lot of people with permits, so I should be able to get some good footage. Good luck to all.
