Grassroots Action Protects Primitive Hunting in New Jersey- (01/16)

The sponsor of legislation to ban muzzleloaders in New Jersey has withdrawn the bill from consideration. The action came in response to opposition generated by alerts from the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance, the New Jersey State Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs and other conservation groups.

New Jersey Assemblywoman Loretta Weinberg, D-Teaneck, had introduced AB 3942 to ban .50 caliber or larger firearms. She said the bill was intended as an anti-terrorism measure. Assemblywoman Weinberg pulled the bill after being contacted by a deluge of concerned New Jersey sportsmen.

Assembly Bill 3942 was introduced in mid-December 2003. It was ushered through the Assembly Law and Public Safety Committee the same day.

Although the bill was pulled from the legislative agenda, it can be reintroduced during the current legislative session, which began this month.

Take Action! Sportsmen should call their assemblymen to explain that law abiding citizens should not be penalized by a prohibition on .50 caliber and larger firearms. To find your assembly member and for contact information, use the Legislative Action Center at www.ussportsmen.org, or call (800) 792-8630.
