Good Lakes for Pike near Lansing

1955 Views 3 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  steelfish365
I'm a new student at MSU and I'm looking to ice fish within the next couple weeks. Are there any good pike lakes around the Lansing area? I fished Lake Lansing and caught a ton of small fish but I am looking for some bigger ones.
Thanks,

You would be better off looking at river systems around Lansing in my opinion. I fish for pike quite a bit and can say anything in the lower to mid 30's is a good sized fish around here. You are going to catch a ton of small ones compared to the bigger ones also. Unless I have a short day to fish I rarely use my time fishing within 45 minutes of Lansing in any direction.

This summer I caught a couple mid-30s pike wile bass fishing at Park Lake. I think it's worth a try, once we get safe ice again. Park by the swimming beach in the north side and head wsw till you hit the drop off. Park is very weedy and predominantly shallow. The drop goes from about 5' to around 15-20, then shallows back up to <5'. The deep area is essentially a trough that runs north and south.

Thanks,
Just sent you a pm. Lived over there most my life and attended MSU. Had lots of free time to figure things out! Go green!
