If you have the time (probably 2 days), you might want to consider driving around the Olympic Peninsula. There are a lot of very famous rivers along the way, and beautiful scenery. There are rivers with good natural runs of summer-run Steelhead. Also, some get "Springers," which are King Salmon that run in the Spring/summer.
I guided for Sturgeon on the Columbia River some years back. We went with a guide named Clancy Holt, and he really got us into the fish! We landed 25, and lost twice that many. I highly recommend him. He also guides for Steelhead, and lives right by the Cowlitz River.
Going out there on business. I might be able to get a whole day if I'm lucky unless I stay the weekend. Getting signed up with a guide would be tough with such short notice. I will do as much research as I can and head out on my own.
Thanks for the reply.
If you can get a day to go on a guided trip, give Clancy Holt a call. His Son guides, too. They are both aces. He will know what you should fish for, where to fish for that type of fish, and will have all the tackle you need.
