Anybody here do this road rally?I don't know how to post a link but a quick search for Detroit Gambler 500 will get a ton of hits. This looks and sounds like some of the dumbest fun I have seen in a long time.

Buddy and i were gonna do it last year. Didn't pan out though. I think it'd be a F'n riot though!!
Car die before the rally or what?I'm trying to find a car now so it can be ready before hand.

JM, it is actually quite easy to post a link. Here a I Googled "Detroit gambler 500", opened one of the results and copied the URL. Back here at MS.com click on the chain link at the top of the REPLY window and paste the URL in there, then click INSERT ... http://www.mlive.com/news/detroit/index.ssf/2017/04/the_detroit_gambler_500_a_rall.html

You don't have to, but I always PREVIEW my post and try the link to make sure I did it properly.

Sigh, 15 years and three kids ago...

We ran the Press On Regardless in an Escort GT and had so much fun, we came back and did it in a F-250 with a 7" lift and monster tires that completely screwed up the correction factor between our mileage and the course mileage by about 20%. And almost ran out of gas on some of the longer stages. And scraped every tree that stuck out. And almost parked on top of a MG that got stuck around a blind corner.

Heard there were wreakers picking up vehicles on the trails around St Helen last year from this trip. Guys had left the vehicles stuck or broke down with signed titles in them.

I think what I have figured out what I'm looking for in a vehicle for this event.1993 or older, because I can get historical plates.and the insurance is cheaper too.And something a little on the crazy side like a Caddy,BMW,,Supra, something either sporty or luxury .And I know that anything I find in the $500 price range is going to need some work or be more rust then steel.

Well I liked the Cadillac but I didn't.The price was good but it was the front wheel drive version.had it been the rear wheel drive version I would have gave the man the money.Today I might be going to look at a Chevette .Things don't get much cooler then a Chevtte. The little guy still runs and drives good according to the owner. While not luxury or sporty it will fit the bill as one of my cool cars from the past. The stories I have about Chevettes .

1987 Chevy Chevette with 90' V-6 four barrel and a turbo 350 trans. This thing really moves! So much so it tore the rear control rods off the unibody. So I do need to reinforce the mounts a little bit.;)
