Looks like the "Fun" at Walpole has come to an End. For those interested read this article that was in the October 11, 2001 Issue of the Detroit Free Press.

Looks like the rumors flying around the last couple of months turned out to be true. The Feds actually teamed up with the Michigan DNR and the Ontario Ministry of Resources to put an end to all of the Violating going on.

It's about freakin' time the Canadian's started cracking down on this crap.....they have known about it for a long time, and just looked the other way. What do you want to bet that they will forget all about when the U.S. F & WS becomes distracted by other things?

The Canadian federal penalties for wildlife violations are severe, Colgan said, with fines that "run into the tens of thousands of dollars. Awhile ago we fined BASF (a big chemical firm) $15,000 for illegal baiting on its property at Fighting Island. The fine for a single offense is commonly $5,000."

The latest charges, which were filed last month, grew out of a 1999 anti-poaching effort in which citations were issued to 11 Americans who were stopped as they drove out of the First Nations reserve at Walpole, Colgan said.

Lets see, BASF, based in Wyandotte, and 11 American hunters, does the Canadian wildlife division ticket any Canadians or Canadian companies? They must of been able to find 1 Canadian to ticket. or are Americans the only ones to violate?

$15,000 to BASF is nothing, have you seen the lodge they just put up on that island? Ill bet you that it is a 4 million dollar or better facility. The hunters over here have been screaming for years about some of the practices going on at these hunt clubs. When the C.O.'S cant get into the properties, there is not much they can do, most of the clubs dont have a guide service. So getting in this way is impossible. When they are shooting ducks on the water, and the flock that is a 100 yards above still comes straight in, it doesnt take a scientist to figure out what is going on!
