Yesterday we caught a flathead catfish that towed us around for 1/2 an hour before he came up. When next to the boat it was obvious that he was not going to fit in our net. Another boater/fisherman with his wife and young son followed us closely to see what it was and seeing our predicament loaned us their net. Once it was in we could not lift the net for fear of breaking it. Fortunately he had a gripper/scales and clamped on the cats lip and still had trouble. The cat topped out his scales at 40 pounds and we are sure he weighted more. The helper is an MS follower with monicker of Arctic Cat 630 (I think that was what he said) and I want to say thank you to him and his wife for their help. I have a number of pictures but now my phone will not let me log into Michigan Sportsman saying that my password is wrong. Obviously it is working here so I do not know what the problem is with the phone. If Arctic Cat is reading this could you please post the pictures that you took to show that this is not a hoax?:help: I would appreciate it and in the meantime I will keep trying to fix the darned phone. I recently upgraded it at a prompt and now I am totally frustrated.:protest_e
Finally was able to get on in my phone. This was one big cat. One picture is with Artc Cat 630 holding it and the other is my brother who caught the fish. The picture of Artic Cat showed the fish better.

Nice job Mr. DeerSlayer. We :lol:can no longer go to the Saginaw river without a BIG NET.

Nice pic Scotty! As well as nice catch. Showed the cat to my buddy and he asked if I planned on having fried catfish fritters? I am sending him a message now to determine what he has been smoking. He is a nice guy with a great sense of humor as you can see.:hide:

Nice Fish - but I don't think that's a 40. 25-30 at the tops.

I can't argue with the scales that they guy had. I am actually going to buy one myself so I can get a better idea of what they weight. It also is an awesome way to get those monsters out of the water since I am pretty sure it would've broken his net also. He said it read 40 and was not completely out of the water so can't say exactly what it weighed. We all strained to hold it up and it felt like more than a bag of salt that weights 40. Don't want to argue with anyone but I took pictures to show what this one looked like and we actually had a scales to weight it with. No matter what it weighted we did not bring it home. Was actually sorry I got it in the boat with all the slime left behind.:bash: It was a memory that we will remember.:coolgleam

I can attest to the fact that he was at "least" that long and I think I am safe in adding another 36 onto that.;)

Prime example of why I won't post on here again. I've caught more Flatheads in the Saginaw than most have caught 'Eyeballs. If that's a 40, I've caught a handful over 50.

Wow, Lets not judge anyone on how big their catch is. Some of those cats look heavier then the camera shows. Everyone has the right to post a good catch.
Bob, that sounds like something EX-CAPT. DAN would say. Just letting you know to be careful of your OPINION. I know how that goes.:shhh::2cents:

C'mon man. We're just killing time and having fun with these ugly beasts. I do feel your " frustration!!!" though. There is a right way and a wrong way to hold a cat for pictures. Hold them out front. I'm not talkin'bout the sagbay longarm either. Try two fists in the face like in this pic. Measured and weighed. 41" 42lb.

That's a good hold in that pic Nick! Sometimes with big fish if the belly sags toward the person and the back goes forward it doesn't do the fish justice.

Wow, did not mean to drive you off of the site!:yikes: Only stating what we saw and heard. As I stated it was not my scales but I did and do believe the gentleman that was helping us. I have no idea why he would not tell the truth when it was not even his fish. We did not measure it but did not think that we had to be that precise to post the picture and results on here.:hide: It actually makes no difference since we threw it back in anyways. If we wanted to be precise we would have entered it for a Master Angler Award and taken the precautions so any doubting Thomas's would maybe be satisfied. It would be nice if you did not try to impugn my integrity. Why lie over a picture that has witnesses?:irked:

Thank you for that and I also agree that I think his whole family were very nice and helpful. It was neat to see his wife exclaiming how big the fish was and she had never seen one that big. I thought that it was his son that was also really excited to see such a large fish. It could have been his grandson and I think his name was Patterson. Just a good wholesome family enjoying our great outdoors.
