While driving east across the UP this week, I stopped and tried the Fox. I was really suprised how deep and swift this little, narrow river is. I tried to wade but found myself quickly up to the top of the chest high waders. Definitely a cold water shed.

Didn't see much bug activity except for the skeeters. However, saw a single mayfly about #12 size, distinctive 3 tail that lifted off the water just as I was getting out. Assume it was a BWO but not sure. Was gone in an instant.

If I had more time, I would like to explore the area a little more. However, it turned into a very expensive trip for me and I'm positive the wife won't let me venture to the UP again without her. Not so much the food, camping or gas that did it. I think it was that little fly fisherman's side attraction called "Soaring Eagle Casino" and it's ATM's. Maybe it was the cold water of the fox that numbed me to the point of weakness. Nah. Can't use that one. I stopped at the Au Sable and nailed a bunch of beautiful brookies on the Holy Waters. I was warmed up by then.

Maybe I just suck at poker and should stick to fly fishing.

It wasn't pretty.

That is why I leave the bank card in the car because once you leave the building it's much easier to talk yourself into not going back in:D.There is another river just west of where you were that is a little more wader friendly, try that one on your next trip up.
