how big should they be?
if we planted in july would it attract deer for nov?
will it help hold deer in the area (creekflat) right next to it
what is the best crops to use?

Good questions but not enough information to give correct answer. About planting in July, I'd recommend waiting until August rather than July. We usually plant anywhere from Aug. 10 until Sept. 1. That goes for clover, oats and rye, which is what we plant. You can also plant clover and rye in the spring, but usually you'll get a little better stand planting in August. This year certainly was an exception because of the lack of rain in August and September. I have had excellent results with Buck Forage Oats. We're close to Marion Springs.
