Fly-fishing show moves to Macomb CC

The Midwest Fly Fishing Expo celebrates its 27th year this weekend by moving to the Macomb Community College Sports and Expo Center in Warren. About 100 vendors and some of the world's top flytiers and fly casters will display the latest and best of everything in the field.

The event had gained a nationwide reputation as "the Southfield Show," but it had outgrown the facilities at the Southfield Civic Center, where it was held for more than two decades.

The Macomb center, at 14500 12 Mile Road, has a 61,000-square-foot hall and 2,300 parking places, something often in short supply at Southfield.

Among the seminar speakers and demonstrators are flytiers Bob Clouser, inventor of the popular Clouser minnow series, and A.K. Best; Simon Gawesworth, three-time British spey-casting champion, and Dick Fischbach, whose book, "The Fly Fisher's Huron," is a nearly step-by-step guide to some of the finest smallmouth bass fishing in the world only minutes from Detroit.

Show hours are 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $10 for adults, with children under 15 free.
