A good friend of mine came into town this weekend and we decided that fishing was going to be our main priority. Saturday night was spent catching up and talking about the glory days. With that said we made it to the water around the crack of noon. We decided to do a walk wade so we opted for a smaller stream in the Northwest lower. The water was in perfect shape and you couldn't ask for a better day of weather. There were a few cars around, but overall traffic wasn't too bad. My buddy hasn't landed a steelie yet so we were determined to break the spell. At the third stop he managed to fool one and a short battle was lost, the next pool produced a good fish for yours truly and we managed to put one on the camera, the next stop produced another hook-up for my bud, but again the fish came out on top. The one we did land was around 8 pounds. All of the fish came in about an hour window when the bite turned on. Orange nuke eggs hooked two and a hex also fooled one. The trout were very friendly all day and we did manage several, but nothing to write home about.

Day two found us off to a better start and we were on the water by 9:00. It was do or die for my buddy and he picked another small stream a little closer to home. The day was rather uneventful except for the trout again. It seemed most good holes produced at least one trout and once again nothing real big. The steelies didn't want to bite today. I spooked several out of the pools we fished, but couldn't get any to cooperate until the last stop of the day. I ended up hooking a nice fish and tried handing off the rod to let my friend get a feel. He looked offended and said if I don't get it myself I want nothing to do with it. I appreciated that and as a bonus I got to fight the fish myself. The fish came unbottoned at the net and that was fine with me and we called it a day. This fish had been in the system awhile and had some good color to him. The trout ate anything in orange and pink. The steelie fell victim to a rabbit strip hex.

To sum it up the fish are there, but they have settled into winter mode. We had to work the holes hard and changed flies often to find the right combos. If you put your time in the fish are there it is just a matter of time before they turn on. A few guide buddies had trips this weekend and seemed to report hooking between 1-5 fish depending on the day. I am not sure what the new rules are and I apologize in advance if I broke any.

I wish everyone here a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and hopefully your stockings are filled with rods and driftboats under your tree.

Happy Holidays to you as well. May the New Year bring prosperity, good health and great fishing

I have a whole bunch of pictures stuck on the digital. I need to get better about putting them on a disk and sharing. The one we landed on Sunday was a gorgeous fish if that helps you with a mental picture.;)

Darn it Chris, if you don't mention the river name I won't know where to fish tomorrow:D

Good report, like Steve said, just need some pictures.

Since we don't have any info, does that mean we stay home tomorrow? Let me know so I don't spend a bunch of time tying up spawn that's just going to go to waste! ;)

Uh...BTW Caddis, I see you changed your avatar. Is that the monkey or the Jackalope? :D :p

Forget the pics, man. We're going full on streaming live video tomorrow. You'll get all the action right from the time one of us shows up late at the launch (Hey Caddis, you were late last time so it's my turn), right through all the times I can't get my cigarette lit because of the damn wind, I spill my coffee in the bottom of his boat and all the "that's what I'm talking about!" moments your PC can handle! ;) :D :)

Nice sarcasim by everyone. I would think that better of you all. I'm sure that the report would not have included a river name no matter what because of it's smallness. The majority does not agree with you....It was a nice report, congradulations on having a good time, but can the rest of you get beyond the sarcasim:mad: Let it rest reading your sarcasim everyday is getting old real quick. I think this site should be educational and kind. Stelmon I just read your wonderful report and thoughts from your past weekend. Let's play nice.;) Merry Christmas

Wildcat,

This is a way a few of us have some fun and blow off some steam. Nothing personal was meant by the posts. The posts were all in fun. So, laugh.....lol

My stance on the matter was again, not with major river names. It just became a "how does the site differentiate between this river and that one". It was an all or nothing deal.

The majority has spoken and I will live with that. :)

without turning this report into a continuation of the last 3-4 long bickering sessions, I think those that have read all the posts about this have been educated, and enlightened. I think it is time for the river anglers on the site to try and trust others. I think alot of folks know who favors the change, and who wanted it back with no restrictions.

I hope that santa will bring some new unity to the sportsmen here!:)

Very good report!;)

Chris:
Thanks for the post. It made my name at work go faster. Thankfully I'm now off until January 5th. What are your hours next week? I might stop in when I'm up your way. Happy Holidays to you also.
Jim
