Does anyone ice fish the channels and cuts on Belle Isle? It seems they would freeze quickly. I haven't fished them, and have no idea of how deep they are or what might be swimming in them. Any information would be appreciated.
I used to fish it about 10 yrs ago. at the far end of the isle there is a canal next to the holding pond, and an outlet at what I think is the pumping station.. I fished thru the ice in the canal with large rapalas'.. use a good spinning reel with at least 6# line... you won't believe what a thrill to pull in a 10# or 15# salmon thru the ice in 4 to 8 ft of water..BUT!!! with the weather like it is, so warm, I would be extremely cautious because that canal faces upriver into the current and I don't think it's safe now.good luck!
the marina east of the beach is fair for perch, at the right time. THIS ISN'T THE TIME. it has current that sweeps along the outside bend. nice parking lot next to it. need to wait for the better ice. have hooked decent pike in there too.
