My buddy gave me permission to use his new Traditons ML this year. He just bought a couple week's ago. I have never fired a ML personally, but would like to get one after this year. I will shoot it a time or two, to make sure it's hitting where I want it. When on stand and waiting for a good shot, what to do? Same thing as with a rifle? What about after the shot? Does the smoke clear pretty quick so that you can watch the deer?

Thanks for any info.

I took a shot on the second day of firearm season with my muzzleloader that hung in the air for over 10 mins. It was real foggy and the smoke just seems to cling to the air forever. I do believe that atmospheric conditions have alot to do with the smoke clearing. On a windy day you can almost see instantly.

last year was the first year I used a muzzleloader, on just my second hunt of the late season I took a 7 point with only 5 min of shooting light left. when I shot there was so much smoke I didn't see the deer's reaction, or the direction it went, or if it was even hit! lucky for me, we went back and found a heavy blood trail from a heart/lung hit quickly, the deer didn't go much farther after that.

sometime in the next year, I'm gonna have to buy myself a muzzleloader, I had a ton of fun hunting the late season :D

I have a couple of things to say. I bought my muzzleloader about 4 years ago. It's a remington 700. I love it. I filled a doe tag the first year I bought it in the late season and there was about five minutes left of light and there must have been a 1 foot flame that came out of the barrel. That was cool.
Also, I had this happen to me last year, I took a shot at a deer and the gun didn't go off, HANGFIRE... As I lifted the gun up it went off firing just over the deers back. Luckly they stuck around long enough for me to reload it and get my shot. So may I suggest to hold steady even AFTER squeezing the trigger so if there happens to be a hangfire you'll still get your shot. IT IS ADDITTING. Less hunters and still a chance for a nice buck.

Hey flyrod

You can get hooked on the ML. Took a six point with mine the first year I had it. Use it durning regular gun season. Had to look under the black powder cloud after I shot to see what was going on. What a hoot!
