FMJ,
There are a ton of places to fish from the shore around here. Not too far of a drive either.
Kent Lake is a good one... they also have a boat rental station where you can get a boat for $20 for the entire day (not sure when that starts).
MattM turned me on to Spring Mill Pond right across the street at Island Lake Rec Area and I have been there several times this year catching Browns and Bows.
I bought a float tube from Bass Pro Shops for $130 and that's a million times better than fishing from the shore. Throw in the thermal waders and the fins and you have a $300 total investment that is well worth it. Plus, you can fish any medium sized body of water as long as the wind isn't too bad.
If you want to head out to Kent Lake on Saturday, let me know and we can meet up out there and take advantage of the C&C season opener for Bass and Pike.
