Hi Everyone! I've been lurking here for a week or so and finally registered. Everyone around here seems very friendly and knowledgeable.

I'm finally getting a chance to get outdoors again after "living the college life" (aka working my ***** off) for the last 8 years. I celebrated the fine weather on Sunday by getting out to Kent Lake. I don't have a boat (...yet), so I fished from shore. The bite was slow, but I did manage to C&R 2 largemouths: 14" and 16". I'll be waiting to get out there for the season opener this weekend, hopefully. Any good places for shorefishing within a 30-45 min drive from Livonia? :D

Welcome to the site John. I've only been a member for a couple of months and I'm addicted to this site. Just a reminder that targeting bass is illegal until saturday. Then once saturday hits it's only catch and release. Wish I could give you some places to shore fish, but I'm a little farther away. Tight lines!:)

FMJ,

There are a ton of places to fish from the shore around here. Not too far of a drive either.

Kent Lake is a good one... they also have a boat rental station where you can get a boat for $20 for the entire day (not sure when that starts).

MattM turned me on to Spring Mill Pond right across the street at Island Lake Rec Area and I have been there several times this year catching Browns and Bows.

I bought a float tube from Bass Pro Shops for $130 and that's a million times better than fishing from the shore. Throw in the thermal waders and the fins and you have a $300 total investment that is well worth it. Plus, you can fish any medium sized body of water as long as the wind isn't too bad.

If you want to head out to Kent Lake on Saturday, let me know and we can meet up out there and take advantage of the C&C season opener for Bass and Pike.
