I'm curious as to what everyone's favorite way to catch river steelhead is. Weigh in using this poll.

Sunny day, bobbers and shrimp on the pier. Perfect for kids, women, and old men in dry tennis shoes. No option for this….

To be fair, the pier is arguably no longer in the river.:sneaky:

Casting spoons, spinners, and plugs for me. Casting and retrieving is about 20% of the fun for me, then 40% adventuring through the woods, and the rest is catching fish.

Depends on what side of the pier one is fishing on I would say half of it is in the river. Nothing like watching that bobber drop.

Yeah - should have made the subject more clear. The poll indicates river steelies. Interesting to see so many on the piers. Been awhile since I've fished the piers. Might have to give it a try this spring.

To vague of options. Catching a steelhead float fishing has a very different experience with a spinning reel vs. bait caster vs. centerpin. I also agree with the pier/harbor comments. Trolling or casting in and around piers can be insane.

Anyway I can get them to bite!
A steelhead will hit about anything if presented right, of course they go off the bite at times.
Always loved bob drops but kinda miss bottom bouncing at times, feeling the bite! It’s kinda like casting hardware, but hardware covers water in dig ways than bouncing or bobbers. Love covering water with lures and even ran flys and had success. So many approaches one can take.
spawn probably most looked at and rightfully so but timing and water conditions can play into whats producing best bite for that scenario.
equally I like casting hardware and float fishing but float fish more if I averaged it out

It is funny how nobody (in WI and MN) ever fishes dries for steele anymore.

Well some guys do, but they won't let you know

In all the reading, research and talking I've done with folks, I've never heard anyone mention dries for steelies. I could see dries in early / late fall, late spring, but what dries in the winter? Yarn flies? Genuinely asking as I have no idea.
