Fished for a couple hours today, and went 2-3 on steelhead. I got to the river a little after 10am and by quarter after, had my first skam of the summer landed. It took an hour before I hooked up again. This fish was a short, stocky hen steelhead, tight in the skein. I hooked and lost another nice fish about 15 minutes later, and that was it for me.

Water was high and tea stained, so big bags were the order of the day and both steelhead completely gutshot them. Chartreuse hooked two and pink one; never had a bite on white. I was going to stop along the way for crawlers, but said screw it. Both fish had BRIGHT orange meat when cleaned; the late spawner was surprising how nice her flesh looked. Been a screwy year and such an early skamania(for this area), as well as a very tight spring run in early June reflects that.
