Hopefully he can get out there. Nothing will help as much as being relaxed out in the woods that most of us call home. Good luck and tell him to be strong. A strong spirit goes a long way.

Huntin' Tom's is best when the hens go to nest!

Just before we started hunting in '88 in area X we went to a seminar and the DNR guy said if you want to hunt and hunt more days apply for the last hunt and you will be more successful. It's held true.

One tip I can offer for the late season is to make sure you take lots of bug spray and your shotgun with lots of shells... show the bug spray to the turkeys and they will come running, then you can just grab them by the neck... The shotgun and shells are for the mosquitoes!

If they every open the extended Hunt in the lower lower it will be my 1st and only choice.

not so much a choke as a miss on a tough shot with no lie 20 birds in front of me and one tom behind me. lol. i knew that swing shot with that many eyes was nothing but a prayer. lol. and i got straight up screwed by a couple guys once too....but ack...04 was the choke to go down in history for me..so..im glad it happened to someone else, cause now im the second story out of jasons mouth..not the first. lol.

I opted to apply for an early hunt. I was drawn for the April 18th-24th hunt. I'm pretty excited as there is a flock of about 60 birds with a dozen or so Tom's running around the property. With the early hunt, I will get a better pick of the birds. My dad just bought the general one good for the entire month of May. I do have one question though, what if I don't get my bird during that week? Can I take one in May? Do I or can I legally purchase a license for May? Or am I just done and out of luck?

Let me tell you about the great choke of ought-four. T'was Adam and I's first year chasing the infamous "Tom". Set up on a hot gobbling beast before light on a hilly powerline, just on the backside of a hill. Placed a featherflex hen in front of us at about 8 steps. Did some light calling and pulled a flydown. Watched 2 toms flydown and B-line our direction. Called a few more times and got ready. Within a few minutes, 2 red heads crested the hill not 20 yards in front of us. Adam and I had flipped a coin and he had first shot. The first bird had at least 6" spurs that were so sharp, he poked himself in the ass when he flew, and a beard so long and thick, ZZ top would be jealous. I waited for the BANG....Waiting....Waiting....Waiting.... the birds decided the featherflex was not real from a distance of 9 inches, and quickly went down the back side of the ridge.

Adam! What the hell? WHY DIDN'T YOU SHOOT??????

Wow, you suck. Period.

And that is how our first turkey season ended, with an epic CHOKE from our one and only flockshot.:evil:

i guess thats the point of second choices...but its never worked for me. lol.
its ok though, with firefighter getting his draw ill still be out calling pretty early (which is as fun as shooting imho) and the girlfriend has my same season, so its almost like being able two kill to birds!

and add in my possible tribal permits.... :evilsmile

I took my wife last year and called in several birds and told her to shoot. but of course she wouldnt listen!
