I want to try fishing the Kalamazoo River from the Paterson Street Launch. I know from a canoe fishing trip from Parchment to D avenue that it gets very shallow that way, but can anyone give me information on "boatability" from Paterson Street to Parchment and the other direction towards Comstock? I will be in a 14' aluminum.

Thanks

I have a 16 ft boat and have taken it all the way down to D ave. It gets quite shallow once you enter the Nature preserve. The best smallie fishing by far is the stretch from king's highway to the water treatment plant in kalamazoo. Feel free to PM if you have any more questions.

from Paterson St upstream to just shy of Comstock you should be fine

the launch at Comstock is shallow - extremely shallow when the river is low

be very careful about leaving valuables in your vehicle at Paterson St launch

It can be boated. Take shear pins. You can also drop a canoe in between Comstock and the King's Hwy bridge and take it out at Arcadia Brewing where they have an access. You could probably spot a car at Arcadia, especially if you plan on having dinner and a beer or two when you are done. The Paterson launch can be a little rough, like finding bloody clothes and no body rough.
