 What? I honest to god have no idea what you're talking about. Dicks is a big box chain with 300 stores that was founded in N.Y. ,not a mom and pop store. They are a fortune 500 company so no need for me to feel sorry for them and their high prices to appease stock holders. I can buy from FishUSA for way less which IS privately owned. I don't know what this has to do with Toyota as I wouldn't buy a foreign POS car if my life depended on it.

Want a laugh go to home depot and try to get someone to help you there. I understand alot of people don't know about home improvement things but damn give your employees some training for the area they work. Its not the employees fault its the employeers for not educating their employee's in the areas they are working

You guys need to get your info straight before posting stuff...i worked at the dick's in saginaw over the summer so I know that the company started in pennsylvania and is now nation wide...sorry to hear about these isolated incidents regarding less than knowledgeable associates but everyone I worked with in the lodge, including myself, were sportsman with a plethora of outdoor knowledge...hopefully it doesn't happen to ya again!

Menards has got it over home depot at least in my area. Nothing like a 16 yr old kid telling you the dont sell such a thing while he looks like break got the best of him if ya know what i mean.

yeah buddy, that was his bait and tackle shop...not the actual DSG...you really sat there and tried to look up info to prove me wrong?! sad...smh :lol::lol:

Yes, I sat here and looked it up by simply going to GOOGLE. It was a long trip out of my way :dizzy:

Pretty clear that Dick and his grandma beleive that the business started in NY with a modest $300.

Most all the stores have the same problems, but Cabela's SUCKS! It is nice to touch and look at something you need and want but the price's @ Cabela's are way to HIGH!

I went to buy a Ice Auger from Cabela's last month, so I called and ask if they price match the person on the phone said " yes we do as long as it is a Brick and Mortar store so I printed the add from this store in MN that had a GREAT Deal on Ice Augers and took a ride to Cabela's.

They then tell me after driving 40 miles that the store has to be within 50 miles of Cabela's to honor the price match. with Cabela's wanted $98 bucks more for the same Ice Auger, so in a nice way I said this is B.S. and went home paid off my Cabela's credit card, cut it up and that will be the last time I step foot in that store!

They get Tour Buses bringing people in daily!

I can't wait to try out my New Ice Auger that I bought with FREE shipping, carrying bag that I saved $98 bucks on and had to wait 4 days to get from FedEx.

CABELA's is over priced on anything they sell, want a good laugh go into the Bargain Cave....lmao

if you remember galyan's sporting goods that what dicks was at novi before they switched hands some were. they may have been a pennslylvania based company or even new york and the tale may have got twisted. i think i remember a pic some were of a 1951 dicks bait and takle store in grand rapids who knows if i am even right on that. it is right it is a corpreate forture 500 company now. wich we all know about corprate bull ***** just like cabelas. they used to be a extremly good supplier of gear now they just suck. were better of sicking with mom and pop shops is kinda a good point full service is what we want but not what we get.

let me make myself a little more clear...the founder of dick's sporting goods opened a bait and tackle shop in new york FIRST...then, the modern day dick's sporting goods was later opened as the store it is now in pennsylvania...if im wrong, whoever is in charge of making their orientation videos needs to make a new one because it would be clearly inaccurate! :yikes:

i stand slightly corrected...the corporate headquarters is located in pittsburgh...the first bait and tackle shop was opened in new york but the modern day DSG came from pennsylvania

you maybe thinking of Dick Dunham.. that owned Dunhams sporting goods in Kego harbor/ Waterford.... that went Corp. and Nation wide in the late 80's or early 90's [SOLD OUT!!!!!!!].... that in turned may have had some thing to do with the Dicks sporting goods in Howell [ may have been a son or grandson of the original owner of dunham's]... that closed a few years back because of the big box chain of DICKS/ GAYLAN's sports, going in at LEE rd in Brighton....

Aslongasitpullsback... The Dicks sports in Howell was a great store.. Customer service and their stock there was great.. If they didnt have what you wanted, Mark would order it for you.. Wish they would of never closed down!! Its those kind of mom and pop shops that I like to support.. Forget the over priced box stores..

Yep there are very few of those stores left... the good old mom an pop places... very very few.... there was a place in Hamburg some years back Called Carol's and that old woman would open her door for me at 7:00am... with out a gripe... always happy to sell me bait.... she didn't have a bunch of tackle, but was open early. unlike most these days with all the Mr Mom's that run them now[got to drive the kids to school]....... always had bait... never out... I miss places like that...

There was another place here in howell/Brighton off of grand river and euller rd I believe it was, called Eldrids.. They ran it out of there poll barn.. If you showed up early and it wasnt open all you had to do was ring the door bell.. They had no problems opening the doors for ya.. Hell if they had coffee made they would offer ya a cup if you wanted it.. Now the only place close to me is Mid West sports in brighton and I hate going there..

yep Eldrid's... its still there but no baits/ archery store any more... just the landscape supply place now....I think....
How about that guy that was out on the west side of town [Howell] did he go down for the count... you where talking with him a few times on here..

3yrs to 4 yrs ago they tore down the mobile station by me ''M59''... that really sucked... it was a server your self minnow tank in the storage closet... well it was with me.... they kind of trusted me... still I always showed what I had in my bucket...

You'll run into that sort of thing just about anywhere. When I worked at Gander we had staff that could tell you the ins and outs when it came to bass fishing on soft water, but had no clue about trolling the big water for salmon. Next time you talk down on something or someone take a look at yourself, are YOU the go-to guy in your industry that knows everything in your field? If you think you are I'm sure there is a library full of information that would prove you wrong. Get off the high horse, besides Vex's are dinosaurs, everyone knows if you aren't icing with an L, you are just making noise.
