I took a ride around Crystal Lake (Benzie County) this afternoon just to look around. There are still four or five permanent shanties out, I saw guys fishing - two or three here and there. The edges are getting pretty bad, but if you want to get on the ice bad enough, you can find a way. People have screwed up some of the road ends, breaking the ice up trying to get shanties off. Most places you can still get on without trespassing if you are careful and, in some cases, don't mind wading a little.
Nights are still cold enough to tighten things up, then during the day it thaws a bit. Be careful if you go.
Koho,
I'll try to make a trip around Crystal tomorrow and post whatever I find out as soon as I get back. I'd like to get out for whitefish at least once before it's all over for this ice season.
George, did you make it up this weekend and did you do any fishing? If so, I hope your luck was good. I haven't been out since my last report on this thread. I did go to the Meet n' Greet in Traverse. Pretty good turn out, met some new faces and some I'd met previously (Whit and Toto). Nice get together!

Just got back from checking Crystal Lake, lots of ice, no worries. The edges that were broken up are iced in again; the spots I checked were OK, but still be careful. There were people fishing in all the usual places, not crowds but, hey, it's Monday. A couple of permanent shanties still out as well as some portables. All the snow, slush, etc. is frozen solid on top and it's slick as h#ll, so be sure to take your creepers. I didn't see any snowmobiles or quads but at one spot in the southwest corner, I swear it looked like someone had driven a car or truck on since the last snow a couple days ago. I wouldn't recommend it.
If anybody decides to go, email or PM me and if I have any more current info, I'll give it to you. Heck, I might just meet you out there!!
