Core-lokts discontinued?

I heard this over the weekend from two different gun stores. Has anyone else heard this or is it just a shortage problem, as with everything from this cluster-F of a year?

I looked online a bit and haven't seen anything that suggested it was true, other than empty shelves in every store. It would suck if it was true, its the best ammo around in terms of reliability in both the ammo itself and availability.

Not sure about core lokt ammo being discontinued but i will say there is a big shortage on just about everything. Walmart in westbranch was out of shotgun shells last week. Had about a dozen boxes lead 12 ga left in various brands and a few 16 and 28 ga boxes.

Went to franks yesterday and they were the first place i have seen steelshot in stock in awhile so i bought 7 boxes. I had to ask on price. The guy told me they stopped pricing it because it is sold as soon as they put it out. I guess i caught them at the right time.

a good hunter typically doesn’t need much ammo but this year will be much different.
There are many people out there going through financial hardship and are planning to fill up freezers with the liberal tag use laws being implemented this year, plus the extra 10 doe tags available this year.
My prediction: there will be an extraordinary number of accidents this year in the deer woods.
Be safe everyone!

Not sure if it is because of Covid or the Bass Pro takeover or some combination of both, but that store doesn't have much of anything except for clothes...disappointing.

Man, this is gonna hurt. Remington ammo was the go to for so many...and affordable. I shot MOA with Core Lokts out of my 300WM.

I didn't see price gouging on any. It has always been about $20 for Core-lokts for 30.06. It wasn't any different this time around. I just got the new scope mounted on my wife's .270 that I got her for christmas. I grabbed a box of core-lokts when I bought it so we had that already. But I ended up getting Winchester Deer Season XP's since it sounded like we were gonna have to switch eventually anyway. It seemed to like them and they seemed to have a bit more punch than the Core-lokts we had, so we were happy with that and will probably stick with them going forward. I do like the bullet design on them more than the old Core-lokts too. Maybe I will switch over to them too, depending on how she does with deer this year with them. I have plenty of ammo for my .06 to get me a few years down the road though and I am not into fixing what ain't broke. So I will keep shooting them until I can't find them anymore.

I spent a bunch of money on fancy ammo for that gun (my .06) years ago after reading a bunch of ballistic articles and going down that rabbit hole. Honest to God that Savage didn't like any of them as much as it did the ol Core-lokts and I was happy to save the money on ammo.

My old 30-30 doesn't care what you stick down the barrel. My .06 will touch holes with Core-lokts @100yds that is good enough to kill a deer. My wife's .270 didn't seem to care the difference between the Core-lokts or the Winchesters. They all grouped damn near touching despite the 15gr difference between them. My dads .06 doesn't seem to care either and he has been shooting Winchester super x's or core-lokts for years, probably with both in the mag at the same time. Lol

Narrowed it to 270 and got no hits. Got 2 hits for 30.06, both at cabelas, one is for those 125 grain accelerators or whatever they are called and one for 165 grain. One hit for 308, 180 grain at Cabelas. Kind of sad. The shelves would normally be overflowing with sales at various stores this time of year. Maybe some local stores like Dunhams will have something but I wouldn't count on it.

I checked Jay's website and they don't have any 30.06 of any kind. They did have one brand of 270 (Barnes) and one brand of 308 (Nosler custom), both with the appropriate price tag.

Haven't shot a factory load down the barrel of any of my rifles in years. Yet another reason to reload...

I know that reloading components are having a shortage also but those of us who have been around for a while realized it comes in cycles about every 4 years or so for some reason. So we purchased in bulk quite some time ago....

Just looking at this pricing I bought a case of Hornady Super Performance 30TC GMX ammo for less than 308 Core Lok. It could be a few years before they make another run of this ammo so I’ll be fine. I can’t load is near the speed of factory rounds so I’ll consider it a good deal.

Not Only Core Lok, also their Premier Accutip 3006 165 is not available any where all are Out of Stock even Jays Sporting Goods does not even list it on their website and that was my place when others were out of Stock did a google search and majority are out but 1 place that wants 66.00 a box that is almost double the price. Good thing I still have 2 boxes but most likely that Remington is in Bankruptcy many are stocking up in case they do not sell off the ammo side of the business. This has been my ammo for 20 years now. Will check later this year and hope I can find it then. I dislike having to test new ammo when this has been the best I have used out of my 2 Remington 06 Rifles!!!
Sad Days for Remington...

I buy a box or two every year and generally will go through less than a box. I have enough to get me through a few years, especially if I am being mindful.

I was more concerned with my wife's gun as we don't have any stockpile built up. But, like I said, it doesn't seem picky so we will just run with Winchester's for now.

I have zero interest in reloading, but it may come to be a necessity.

Losing Core-lokts would ripple through in a bad way though. They just work so damn well and are more affordable than most. IDK where half these manufactures get thinking their ammo is worth what they charge. Other than maybe just sales volume?

I’ve had issues with Core Lokt ammo miss firing out of my 30-06 so I switched to Deer Season XP and have had no issues since then. They perform better on deer as well! Won’t miss the core lokt if they do go under.

I just got those for my wifes .270. I am excited to see how they do. I like the design better than the old school core-lokts. I have never had a problem with the core-lokts though and there is always a more than adequate blood trail and damage done.

I am curious though....

I’ve shot a couple deer with the Deer Season XP bullets now and I’m very happy with them! They leave better holes than the core lokt bullets did and blood trails are excellent. No complaints yet...
