I live just outside of Cheboygan. I have not seen a wolf or wolf sign yet in this area. I have talked to quite a few people who say they have seen them in the area. I've also talked to hunters in the Posen and Hilman area who also have been seeing wolves. I have no doubt some of these people have been seeing wolves.

Russ Mason has even said wolves were spotted crossing the ice bridge. Wolves are in the LP and will be expanding their range. Get used to it, they are here to stay.

Did Mason say they were spotted crossing the ice or they could have ?

I live in Washtenaw county and the coyote population is horrible down here! I shot a doe last weekend thought i would go back to the car and drop my climber and the rest of my stuff there. Maybe a hour and a half went by before i started the tracking job. While heading back in the woods a could hear the yotes yelping and howling. When i found her about 100yrds from the point of the shot she had already been torn up!
The predators are getting out of control if you ask me. Wolves, coyotes it does not matter!!!

Its unlikely wolves were on an archery kill only 40 yards from the hunter in such a short amount of time and that they found the deer did that much damage all in 30 minutes. Not to mention the brave hunter "fought off" the pack of wolves all on his own.

Its not impossible, just unlikely. Anybody in the lower could make the same claim and post a picture on Facebook of a coyote eaten deer and it would have the same amount of credibility.

It is a fact. The wolves are up here, here to stay, and something we will have to deal with as hunters. Instead of trying to discredit someone's story about what he saw, put your effort into either fixing the problem, or being thankful that you live far enough south you wont have to deal with it. Enjoy the weather in Ann Arbor today...I hear its sunny.

"Conservation officers from the Department of Natural Resources and Environment in Gaylord are seeking information on the possible poaching of a wolf that occurred in Cheboygan County sometime between Jan. 14 – 19. The wolf was one of two pups that were radio-collared by the DNRE and U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Wildlife Services in October 2010 in Cheboygan County. The pups’ movements had been radio tracked with the last live signal occurring on Jan. 14. Wildlife biologists with the DNRE then received a mortality signal on Jan. 19 and located the collar from the wolf pup alongside Riggsville Road, approximately five miles east of Interstate 75 in Cheboygan County. The animal has not been recovered. The DNRE is focusing its investigation in the wolf pup’s territory in the townships of Burt, Inverness, Munro and Mullett in Cheboygan County"

I didn't dispute that there are wolves in the lower. I think they should be managed like any game animal. This thread is about the guys story and the story is unlikely to have happened the way it was presented. And yeah its another beautiful, wolfless day in Ann Arbor, couldn't be happier.

It had to be wolves and I think they took the picture. Go back and look you can definitely see a shadow of a wolves head on the hind quarters. That's proof enough for me. Haha

Well it wasn't too many years ago the DNR confirmed breeding wolves in cheboygan county ............even ready to prossucute whoever shot one pup they collored as killing a wolf...........the problem was even they couldn't tell the difference between a wolf and coyote with wolf DNA ,as they turned out to be ! In other words they were what is commonly called an "eastern coyote " . Unless it has been killed real recently ,the other one they collared is still being monitored

Well ? For all of the doubters out there, this gentleman is my nephew. Very accomplished hunter and has been
hunting for many, many years. Know's the difference between a coyote and a wolf. And he's big enough and,
would challenge the wolves for this beautiful buck. When I first seen it I sent the pic to my son at work and he confirmed that yes it was Pat. And the DNR better start being honest with people that there are wolves in the lower peninsula. And yes he does have a set of nads....the only thing that backed him of last year was a black bear. When I hear more about the story I'll post it.

good lord give me a break do you honestly believe he FOUGHT THEM OFF this isnt the remote yukon territory in the dead of winter. He might be the greatest hunter on the face of the planet, doesnt mean hes not a story teller. So many of you are so afraid of wolves and just weird you believe anything people tell you because you want it to be true. YES THERES WOLVES THEY ARE EVERYWHERE
