At last week's NRC meeting, Russ Mason, DNR chief of Wildlife, proposed changes to how CWD zones are defined. His proposed changes can be found at:
http://www.michigan.gov/documents/e...ngencyPlan_2012Update_FinalDraft_391020_7.pdf

In reviewing the document, it seems that how CWD zones are defined is pretty wishy-washy. It indicates that it could include an entire peninsula, but not necessarily. Yet there is not defined geographic area (like 10 square miles around where CWD was discovered), like other states use.

What I find most interesting is that, even though changes to the CWD management plan are being proposed, it doesn't appear that the DNR is seeking public comment.

I'd like to know what hunters think of the proposed changes for a story I'm doing for the Battle Creek Enquirer. If you live and/or hunt in S. MI, please contact me at [email protected] to give me your opinion.
