Hey @Davison333, a three-hour float on the Cass for smallies sounds like a great way to explore some new water. To help people recommend a good stretch, what part of the river are you thinking of starting from? Sharing a general area might help folks give you the perfect recommendation

It's not the cass but barber park in Montrose to burt rd Bridge is a good smallmouth float. It's been a while for me but I feel like it may take more than 3 hours.

 

It's about 7 hours depending on how often you stop, has been a little slow for me and my dad this summer. Lots of good sized fish but nowhere near the numbers we used to get.

 

Most of the Cass is wadable, and this time of year you don't need waders. Wading you can take your time to fish a spot from multiple angles, try changing lures, etc. I find that fish in small, shallow rivers are very picky about presentation.

 

Plus, it's much easier to climb over that logjam than carry a kayak over it.
