Can Retailers Reprint Tags

Does anyone know if it's possible for retailers to reprint tags.

Here's the scenario......a few weeks Buddy A shot a 4 point deer, and tagged it with the corresponding tag from his combo license. Come to find out once butchering the deer several days later, the deer was tagged with Buddy B's tag. Somehow, Buddy A and Buddy B had inadvertently had the other's tags in their packs. They both bought them at the same time, and somehow got them mixed up.

Nonetheless, Buddy A peeled Buddy B's tag off, and reaffixed the proper tag. Buddy A is now done hunting for the season after getting his deer. Buddy B has yet to get a deer, and wishes to continue hunting. The 4 or better portion of his combo license is still intact, however, the other portion isnt.

Morally there would have been no harm in Buddy B simply using Buddy A's tag as if it were his, however, it's obviously not legal.

Can Buddy B go to a retailer and have them reprint his tag? Or, does he have to buy another to be compliant?

I should also note that Buddy B's tag that was erroneously used to tag the deer is still somewhat intact, after carefully trying to remove it from the deer. I can't magine that conversation would go well however, if it were necessary to present that to a CO.

If you lose your tag you can get a replacement. You will have to pay the full price to buy the replacement

No "?" above, but I believe this what you want to know. Yes they can. This discussion has been gone over before. I think(but not positive) what happens is that you can go and and tell(lie) the person behind the counter that the license has been lost. They can print a new one and charge the $20 again. The person behind the counter is not going to be interested in the story or reason for needing another license.
Now whether the DNR investigates this or not I would have no idea. Certainly the sale of another single tag must alert someone somewhere of this sale.
The safe thing to do would be for that person to get an antlerless tag, if available, and go doe hunting.

They do investigate " lost licsense" sales or double sales.
"They MAY investigate" would be the right way to make that statement.
2 years ago I lost(at least I thought so) a license somehow that was part of the combo and had to go to a store and purchase another about a week before the gun opener. Never heard from the DNR. Sometime before turkey season in the spring I found that tag in my wallet.
I went back and read post #1 again. If I were a CO, I probably would not buy the story that the licenses were somehow swapped at the checkout counter. A husband and wife.....that would be believable.

True, they " May" investigate. But I sure wouldn't be telling the OPs story to the officer when he is at his door. After he bought a " lost licence".

In my experience I had two tags a few yrs ago....shot a buck opening day. C.O. stopped to check deer and tag, I tagged deer with wrong tag.....C.O. told me I had to purchase another tag to tag it properly, which I did, C.O. stopped by next day to make sure deer was properly tagged. No citation was issued. Error was my own fault, I should have used proper tag. I guess in excitement I just grabbed a tag and used it. Shame on me!

Only time I lost a license, I'm in college had friends up for early goose, we had a rather crazy night partying. Wake up getting my stuff together, can't find my license. I literally tore the house cussing, as I always put stuff on counter to remember, wake dad up with screaming got my butt chewed as it's 4am

Have a pond with 500 geese, run to Meijer as only place open I could get a license and stamp. Go hunting

Get home dad goes, found your license, he put a pound of bacon on it evening before not knowing, put back in fridge, when he picked the then thawed bacon out, yup my license stuck to it.
