Camera Found On Private Property

I’m looking for some advice on how some of you all would handle my situation. A couple of weeks ago I found a camera placed on private property 30yds from one of stands. It was not there the last week of August. I don’t believe they saw my stand as it is further down the trail that they most likely walked down. I confirmed with the landowner that they have not granted permission for anyone else to hunt. The camera is not located anywhere near the property line so it is unlikely that whoever placed it thought they were on property they have permission to be on. I checked today and it is still there. It is not a cell camera so I assume they will be coming back to check the card fairly soon. Once season opens I will be walking past it to access my stand. Should I leave the camera on and leave a note asking them to call me? Turn the camera off and leave a note (they really don’t need to be getting pictures when they don’t have permission)? The landowner suggested that I either take the camera and leave a note or place a board in the ground blocking the camera and leave a note. I’m not sure about taking the camera as I don’t want the camera I have out taken or have them mess with my stand if they see them when they return. Any thoughts?

Remove the camera and give it to the landowner. Leave a note on the tree saying if they want their camera back, they need to see the landowner. If not claimed by the end of hunting season, the landowner will either keep the camera or give it to you.

I don't think thisnis really great advice. It depends on the relationship he has with the landowner. Is it a lease? Just someone giving permission? If this is a permission situation most landowners don't want unneeded drama. My farming buddy wouldn't be happy with me if I took a camera and gave it to him. He is too busy in the fall to deal with people hunting him down over trivial things like trail cameras.

My neighbor allowed someone to hunt 25 acres. The guy started raising issues with other people who were using the property for various things like walking dogs kids fosbing in thw creek etc. He told the guy to take a hike for causing unneeded drama.

I like the idea of leaving a note and the board over the camera.

I would add, my own cell cam pointing at it.

I also would call the rap line and get a CO out there to paper trail this issue. It helps to prosecute if you have a paper trail.

If your stand is not locked (trust me) I would secure it.
Maybe even rehang it to better see his entry instead of the deer.

I've dealt with this type of stuff for years..

I’d leave a note and put one of my own cameras close by so you can get pictures of the perp.

a number of years ago the violators hunting the neighbor’s property hung a stand just over the line on my property. I wrote a note with my name and number stating if the stand wasn’t removed in 10 days I would remove it and the ladder. After 10 days, I went back and found the plastic bag I had put the note in was ripped open with the note still inside. I removed the stand and took the ladder apart and leaned them next to the base of the tree. It was gone two days later.

Unfortunately for me in numerous spots and behind the house, I continued to battle recreational trespassing until I had a solid paper trail. Plus willing to go to court to prosecute.

I had stuff stolen and messed with.

Uniting neighbors who bordered the land instead of a idgaf attitude about someone trespassing. Plus adding if they steal from me, their looking in your shed too.

That person knows exactly what they are doing poaching and or hunting your private property.

Take it down. Leave a note and if the person contacts you then advise them they are trespassing Give it back if he contacts you. If not. Toss it in the garbage

The mischief potential is great.....

Consider getting a sasquatch costume and mug some pics.....

Anothet great one would be more involved - but you could stage a ritual human sacrifice with a dozen of your friends.....

Alien encounters. Dinosaurs. You name it...

Put real fear onto this cretin....

The best part? When you see it go viral on the internet.

And the cretin can' t tell anyone where he took the pics....

Google "Scary trail cam photos" download a bunch and replace any pictures on the camera with these. Really, just leave a note with your name and number explaining the camera is on private property and will need to be removed, let them know you are hunting near by, has worked for me with cameras and stands. The land owner may not want the drama just take care of it yourself.
