Not sure about the lakes but I did fish the river in cheboygan and caught some nice smallies. Had them follow a jig but would not hit. Switched to a plain brown worm hooked in the center and just let it flow with the current and watched for line movement. I don't think these fish were on beds, too deep to see bottom.
I was up ar Mullett for a week after walleye, did catch a few smallies also(released). The water temp was 63 when we got there on the 8th of June and it was up to 78 when we left on the 15th. There were a few guys that were cleaning Smallies:sad: at the State Park, and they had eggs in them yet, but with the temp up to 78 they should be done soon, The Walleye fishing was good if you don't mind fishing early or late at night.
