I just ordered some cable stakes and i was wondering if I need to boil them when I receive them? Any recommendations on using them? Thanks

i made all of mine and never boiled them. i really never thought about is cause there under ground.

I prefer to degrease my brand new ones, so that I dont cross-contaminate other equipment. In other words, indirect transfer of the petroleum oils to my traps, tools and the set area.

But I only do it once, before putting them into service.

Probably doesnt make a HUGE difference...theyre generally not very oily, anyway.

Ok thanks guys for the tips. I guess I go "Boil Crazy" I boil everything. My trapping shovel, stakes, trap ID tags, sifter.

i guess i never boiled mine cause of using aluminum ferrels. i wasnt sure what the heat would do to them. if your worried about the oil that is on them take them to a power car wash and blast them with that. should take care of them.
