boatus tow

Heading back in to bolles last night saw a guy waving a life jacket, it was late and no other boats around so we swung by to see what the problem was. He had a nice lund and said the motor quit and wouldnt start. Said he called for a tow and it was 260.00 an hr and he didnt have the money. He offer us his 6 fish, no thanks that would put us over our limit. Got him back to the dock OK, but heres comes the rant. If you can afford a 60 thousand dollar boat, spent 80 bucks and get tow insurance. Its the best piece of mind you can have knowing if something happens help is a phone/radio call away.

Some boat insurance even comes with tow insurance.

You did the right thing helping this person out even though they put themselves in this situation.

I HAD tow boat US for years. when my lower unit went out 10 miles out on Saginaw bay on July 4th weekend I called for a tow and the Lady stated she was at her family reunion down state but she would load her kids up and come get me but would be at least 4-5 hours. good thing i wasn't taking water on. I would of thought with 4th of July being the busiest boating weekend of the year they would stay local. I was towed in by a friend and never renewed tow boat US.

You could have at least messed with his head first by bartering his gear before you tied on...

Not always but some damn good peace of mind. Considering how slow a tow is, not much different in the face of weather either.

Having a good anchor and enough anchor line is also some damn good peace of mind.

A independent fuel source for each motor would be the only guaranty.

Amen to that!

Yep, this is how I do it. a little 5 gallon under the rear deck, atop the built in tank.
Well worth the money when needed

I never go out without it.I found out that I'm covered even if I'm on someone else's boat.Best money spent.

For those with BoatUS memberships, don't forget to add Trailer Assist, a small price to pay if you have a breakdown off the water.

This has saved my hide in the past. Kinda surprised a Lund on lake Erie didn't have one. Seems like the norm.
