We tear the gills up in the fall at around the 20' depth. Use an ice jig tipped with a mousie or wax worm on a slip bobber. Make sure you are using light line as well. We motor around until we find a school of fish, throw a marker out, and then anchor 30-40 ft. away and cast to the marker. We pull out some extremely nice gills using this method. Hope this helps!
I'm going fishing in a lake this weekend over in Kalamazoo and it's supposed to mainly be gills, crappie and perch. I'm not sure how to approach them. Will be fishing from shore and pontoon boat (no fish finder).
