Bluebills popular target from layout boat
QUANICASSEE - The bluebill looked like it was going to work just the way it was drawn up in the playbook.
It came in from afar, low over the water, heading straight for the opening between long lines of decoys on either side of the layout boat. Then right at the moment of truth, it flared to the left. I sat up, swung my shotgun and dropped the bird into Saginaw Bay.
It was my second (and limit) bluebill of the morning. I knelt up in the boat so my partners, several hundred yards upwind in an 18-foot Lund, knew to come get the bird and rotate another hunter into the layout.
