Hope everyone is having a great season!

Was wondering if someone can help me understand. I’m processing a deer taken on the 15th. Shot just a hair back, obliterated the liver (entry side) and half of the far lung (left side). Now butchering and have found a lot of blood shot meat in the close (right side) shoulder and down into the neck.

Anyone ever see this, or have any explanation?

Pics of entry and blood shot side, and exit… and then a little antler porn. :)

Could have ran into a tree on the death run and caused a hematoma before death. Afterwards, if that area was lower than the rest of the animal, blood could have pooled in that area? Lots of possibilities....
I had thought about this, but death run was 20-30yds through poplar regrowth, wasn’t a big tree around. He was laying this side down though, for prolly 40 min…although before gutting was laying on the other side. Appreciate the response.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Shot a fair amount over the years, but haven’t seen it this bad this far from the shoulder.

Didn’t really think the blood would leach between muscles layers that far, but after thinking about replies and the whole scenario, that must have been what happened.

Preciate y’all!
