we all use a tent from the east side. easy to haul :coolgleam

 

I was wondering about a hub shanty also. They sure are a lot cheaper then the flip shanty's. I do like how easy it is to set up my flip shanty but worried about setting up a hub shanty on a windy day by myself.

 

my hub holds heat just as good as my flip using a tank top heater. using a buddy heater inside a hub might be like trying to put a fire out with a squirt gun though.


And yes, they are a pain in the ass to set up in the wind but the fact they weigh a fraction of a flip over might just make it worthwhile to carry.

 

oh and as far as windy days the best way I have found is to park your machine facing into the wind. then when your setting up put a tie down on the rack on the back of your machine connected to one of the wall eyelets on the hub. then pull everything out so that the side facing into the wind/facing the machine will stay out.

 

I use a pop up blind from ameristep 2 sec setup through it on your shoulders and go doesn't get any easier or quicker aahhh life is good

 

I've used both, the hub isn't too bad if you are only setting up once or twice. If you move a lot, then it is hard to switch from a flip. The biggest issue for me was always the anchors, they can drive a person crazy.

 

As far as anchors go take a cordless out there and drill a pilot hole in the ice ...easy breezy

 

Oh and stay away from HT pop up. Bought qa three man and one of the hubs broke second time out.

never thought about a pilot hole. pure genius the light bulb has come on.

 

My buddy has a Hub and we drill pilot holes for the anchors. It is way faster doing it that way. They are not great if you plan on moving around a lot, lot of setup time especially if its windy.

Maybe a small tarp with bungee cords...? Thats all I got maybe someone else has a better idea.

I have a Frabill 4 man hub and I think it's a great shanty. I also heat it with a buddy heater. It's not as warm as a flip over, but it's definitely comfortable.

 

I bought the anchor attachment for the cordless screw gun to drive the anchors into the ice. It was a good purchase for $13.00. It enables you to zip multiple anchors into the ice in short order.
